Featherweight data cable with a punch
DATAGREEN® is a small-dimension signal cable that uses minimal electric current to control electronics, computers, machinery and equipment; measure physical quantities, like temperature, pressure, light, position, vibration, etc.; and provide low-voltage power for Compact Fluorescent Lights (CFLs) and Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs).
Higher strength with less copper
Traditionally, signal cables are made of pure copper. To achieve high tensile strength for safe pulling and installation, a larger cross-section was used than was really needed. This meant extra weight, volume and expense. By substituting a new alloy for copper, compact DATAGREEN® meets the same requirements.
Omni applications
DATAGREEN® is used wherever measurement, automatic control, or low energy is needed: assembly-line robots, electronic devices, automotives, rolling stock, shipbuilding, energy-efficient office/shop/street illumination, and airport runway lights.
Patented alloy
The new alloy was developed by the NMC, and entirely produced by Nexans in Lens (France) and Bramsche (Germany), with production in Mohammedia (Morocco), Paillart and Chauny (France). Researchers knew that copper content went far beyond electrical requirements. So they developed a patented alloy that could deliver the same performance in a smaller cable while improving overall cable strength. DATAGREEN® reduces cable volume by 35%, cuts weight by 50%, increases tensile strength by 20%, and raises temperature resistance (≤ 125°C). It also helps us achieve procurement stability in a volatile, world copper market.
Unique product
Nexans is the only cable manufacturer to produce this cable completely through our continuous casting and insulating processes. DATAGREEN® is available in all insulations including conventional PVC and zero-halogen versions, and is also as easy to recycle as copper.
